The album is available for pre-order beginning today and arrives everywhere Friday, April 27th.

Monáe released two singles “Make Me Feel” and Django Jane”. Her two new videos feature her unapologetic female power driven lyrics.

In “Make Me Feel” she shows off her funk moves with a nod to the 80’s music and dance revolution. She told The Guardian that “It’s a celebratory song. I hope that comes across. That people feel more free, no matter where they are in their lives, that they feel celebrated. Because I’m about women’s empowerment. I’m about agency. I’m about being in control of your narrative and your body. That was personal for me to even talk about: to let people know you don’t own or control me and you will not use my image to defame or denounce other women.”

Known previously for her alter-ego Cindi who “is an android and I love speaking about the android because they are the new “other”. People are afraid of the other and I believe we’re going to live in a world with androids because of technology and the way it advances. The first album she was running because she had fallen in love with a human, and she was being disassembled for that.”

Janelle’s Dirty Computer is being heralded as her most “human” album yet.

She told The Guardian “‘Django Jane’ is “a response to me feeling the sting of the threats being made to my rights as a woman, as a black woman, as a sexually liberated woman, even just as a daughter with parents who have been oppressed for many decades. Black women and those who have been the ‘other’, and the marginalized in society – that’s who I wanted to support, and that was more important than my discomfort about speaking out.”

Janelle’s Time’s Up Grammy speech made headlines when she said “We come in peace, but we mean business”.

Janelle received high praise for her performances in Moonlight and Hidden Figures. Her next role is in the upcoming film titled The Women of Marwen by filmmaker and screenwriter Robert Zemeckis, alongside Steve Carell and Leslie Mann.
